Sedation Dentistry for Dental Anxiety and Phobias
Does dental anxiety make it difficult for you to keep up with your regular dental appointments?
At Nova Dental Anesthesia, we use sedation dentistry to calm our patients while we care for their beautiful smiles. Sedation dentistry allows us to do our work while you sleep, removing the potential for vulnerable and uncomfortable situations.
What is sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry covers a variety of techniques, using a combination of medications and gases to allow patients to be more relaxed in the dental chair. Our in-house dental anesthesiologist administers different levels of sedation, depending on your needs.
What are Nova Dental Anesthesia’s sedation dentistry options?
Our practice offers a wide array of sedation options, including oral sedation, nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and general anesthesia.
- Oral sedation provides a sense of calm before and during the dental procedure.
- Nitrous oxide, also referred to as “laughing gas,” provides mild amnesia, and for some patients, even sleep during the procedure.
- IV Sedation is also referred to as “twilight sedation” because patients drift in and out of sleep with no memory of the procedure.
- General anesthesia provides a deeper level of sleep when other sedation options are not enough.
Am I a candidate for sedation dentistry?
Most of our patients are candidates for sedation dentistry because it is used not only for those who have dental phobias, but also for those receiving extensive dental treatments, having trouble getting numb, or suffering from a severe gag reflex. We encourage you to schedule a free sedation consultation with our in-house dental anesthesiologist to determine if sedation dentistry is right for you. Once we’ve considered your medical and sedation history and the proposed dental treatment, we can together decide which option would be best for you.
