Invisalign FAQs

Frequently Asked Clear Braces Questions in Burke

Clear braces, also known as Invisalign®, are a teeth-straightening method that is often chosen by patients with a fear or phobia of traditional braces because of the minimal pain and anxiety produced by the clear aligners. If you fear visiting the dentist, we want you to know that we go out of our way to make all our patients feel welcome and relaxed from the moment you walk in the door until your dental work is completed. And this goes for orthodontic treatment as well. We look forward to making sure your dental experience with us is pleasant and comfortable.

How is Invisalign® different from traditional braces?

Invisalign® and traditional braces serve the same purpose: to straighten teeth so that they function properly and improve your smile. The main difference between the two is the technique in which the straightening is done. Invisalign® uses a series of clear aligners or customized trays that need to be switched out every couple of weeks. Traditional braces use metal brackets that are attached to your teeth to adjust their positioning. Clear braces are removed for eating and their cleaning while conventional braces remain fixed to your teeth for the duration of the treatment.

How do I know if Invisalign® is right for me?

When you come in for a consultation, we’ll be able to assess your case and let you know if you’re a candidate for Invisalign®. An important thing to remember is that wearing the removable aligners is what makes the treatment successful, so you must commit to actually wearing them (and resist the urge to remove them during the day) for them to work.

What is the treatment process like?

When you come in for your first visit, we’ll do a complete evaluation, decide if Invisalign® is a good fit for you, and design a treatment plan that aligns with your dental goals.
If you decide to move forward with Invisalign®, we take a digital impression of your teeth which is a simple and comfortable process. We may even be able to provide you with a shot of what your teeth will look like upon completion of treatment!
You will return for periodic visits throughout the duration of the treatment so we can make sure that your teeth are moving in the right direction, on the path to a perfectly beautiful smile!

How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

A typical treatment time is about 12-18 months, but the length of the digital plan we map out for you depends on your specific goals and how much you wear your aligners. The system relies on your wearing the aligners for a set number of hours each day, and this is what ensures a quick and successful treatment.

Is Invisalign®/clear aligners cheaper than braces?

In most cases, clear aligners and traditional braces are similar in cost.

How much does it cost to get Invisalign®?

The cost of Invisalign® depends on a variety of factors, including the severity of your tooth misalignment, how many teeth need to be straightened, your insurance benefits and what they cover, and the duration of your treatment. We will verify all of these things when you come in for an evaluation.

Which is better: braces or Invisalign®?

Both traditional braces and Invisalign® have advantages and disadvantages when it comes to straightening teeth. The reason more people prefer Invisalign is that the clear aligners are almost invisible, removable so there are no restrictions on eating, and more comfortable than a mouthful of metal.

Do you wear Invisalign® all day?

Yes! The more you wear your clear braces, the more successful your treatment will be. Plan to wear them 20-22 hours a day. Every two weeks, you’ll get a new set of aligners. Remember that each set of aligners will gently move your teeth into place and transform your smile.
