What Are Some Extensive Treatments or Procedures That Might Require Sedation?

Sedation can be a wonderful service for those patients who fear going to the dentist. This is especially true for invasive and extensive treatments, which we highly recommend sedation of some sort. These treatments or procedures take a long time and typically require the patient to be as still as possible throughout the process.

Sedation can help to shorten the overall process. Here are some of the most common extensive procedures that may require some form of dental sedation:

  • Dental Implants – Sedation can be a huge help during a dental implant procedure. Sedation allows the dental provider to have optimal placement so you know you are getting the highest level of dental care.
  • Full Mouth Dental Implants – AKA known as Teeth-in-a-day or All-on-X. This extensive dental treatment may involve extracting many to all teeth, placing multiple implants in the mouth and inserting a denture that is fully supported by the dental implants. All in one day!
  • Full Mouth Restorations – Do you have many fillings, root canals, crowns and extractions that need to be done? Does the sound of having all that work done stop you from proceeding with treatment? Then sedation for these extensive procedures can be the solution for you.
  • Wisdom Tooth Removal – Wisdom teeth often need to be extracted as they erupt later in life and will typically be difficult to keep clean. The difficulty of wisdom tooth removal can vary, as some wisdom teeth are hidden while others are about ready to come out. To make this extensive treatment seem less traumatic, many dentists suggest sedation.
  • Root Canals and Crowns – Having multiple root canals and crowns performed while you are awake can be a lot to handle as a patient. Almost unbearable because these procedure can take a lot of time. Having them done under sedation can save you the trouble and headache of those long and uncomfortable appointments of  getting your treatment done, mouth open and not being able to move. Consider sedation to make it a more enjoyable experience.
